Murals, painting, drawings, paintings for kids

I painted a mural for a friend this week. Her daughter, who's 4, was sooooo excited. The 1st night that I showed up with all of my tools... brushes, paints, rags, and who knows what else I had in my little bag of tricks. I banned her and her mom from the room. It was nerve racking having someone watch me. I had to make sure I got my colors mixed properly. And, I didn't want to ruin a friendship by not doing a good job. I always get nervous when I paint for someone else. It's an acceptance thing. Like being in high school wanting your friends to like you. And art is personal. As an artist, I love ALL of my work and I want everyone else to like it also. I know that's a lot to ask... setting myself up for failure. I get in the zone when I'm painting. I am on a natural high. I don't want people talking to me, I'm concentrating. After painting the background, I got up and left the room. I always to this when I'm painting. In my mind it looks okay while I'm painting, but when I leave and come back with "fresh eyes" it let's me see possible mistakes or the masterpiece. WOW! It looked wonderful... uh, naturally (said with hesitancy). So, I finished the background and came back the next day to complete my work of art. The most important person loved it. My friends little girl loved my work. Her mother has taught her well. She told me several times that she liked it very much. As I've said previously, I love my work... especially when my 4 year old clients loves it also.
